It was a very cold winter night. I was on the bus going back to Chia-yi from Taipei. It was a five hours ride and I didn’t have my winter coat with me. The bus was almost empty and at some point, it got colder and colder. I tried not to shiver so much because the guy who was sitting next to me seemed to be asleep.

I felt a tap on my left arm when the bus was somewhere in Taichung. Then I heard he whispered, “You look like you’re about to freeze to death. Here, take my coat.”

And I nodded.

It was 10 years ago and I can’t remember the stranger’s face or name anymore. But I still remember the warmth of his smile as he covered me with his coat.
